SOUTHPORT, N.C. – Parents and families continue to benefit from enrolling in the evidence-based Incredible Years parenting program offered by Communities In Schools of Brunswick County (CIS). The Incredible Years parenting class strengthens families by promoting effective positive strategies for parents to use to manage their children’s behavior. CIS has provided this service for the county for the past seven years.

Incredible Years Parenting Classes will be held in Southport beginning on September 14 and Shallotte on September 15 from 5 – 7:30 p.m. at both locations. The classes are for anyone in a parenting role with children ages 5-12 years old. The program is FREE of charge and includes dinner. The interactive sessions make learning fun and are easy to incorporate into real world parenting situations. Facilitators leading the CIS program have received extensive training from The Incredible Years Network and continued support from Prevent Child Abuse North Carolina. While parents are meeting, children are in another room learning similar age appropriate material. Topics are designed to help increase family communication, cooperation, and respect.

“Since coming to these classes things are calmer in our house,” said an Incredible Years parenting program participant.

Classes are offered in Shallotte on September 8 and Southport on September 14. Class space is limited. For more information or to reserve your space, please call Margaret Roseman, Parenting Education Director, at 910.253.5327 ext. 1435 or visit www.cisbrunswick.org.
