DAVE DOBSON

WGNI’S mid-day announcer – again – You might recognize the voice as Dave Dobson was once
the mid-day guy back when Dana Carvey was funny and Wilmington had little to no traffic problems.
“I just can’t seem to leave GNI!!” Dave loves making the workday fly by as fast he can with
the 80’s lunch hour café, “yes I am a child of the 80’s, gosh how old am I now?”
Dave began his radio career on a dare while still active in the U.S. Air force stationed in a dust bowl
somewhere in S.W. Oklahoma. Dave’s buddies kept telling him to try out at the local radio station
since he was always good at mimicking DJ’s. Lo and behold he was offered a part time weekend job
spinning – yes, records! “OK enough about the age already!”

After leaving the Air Force Dave decided the blustery winters of N.E. Ohio, where he grew up in the city of Akron was to much so he decided to trek south in search of water and warmth. Dave stumbled across an article in a radio publication seeking a morning announcer for a little radio station in Ocean Isle Beach, where he was ultimately hired and worked for 6 months only to leave for a much better opportunity unloading box cars in Mike Farrow’s hometown of Parkersburg WV. “I thought I was gonna get killed since we were supposed to go into this factory to serve the workers that filled in for the strikers.” The same day Dave was to go in, Mike called and offered the mid-day announcer job and the rest is history. “Mike saved my life!”

Dave had also worked for WNMB in N. Myrtle Beach S.C. for a number of years during the mid 90’s as
well as WHBC in Canton, Ohio. Dave also owned Wilmington Traffic on Demand where you may have
heard him report traffic on WECT. “Gee,  we don’t have traffic problems in Wilmington, do we?”
“I love radio, I doubt I will ever get away from it or will it ever get away from me?” Dave loves softball,
golf and anything Cleveland sports-most of all his Brownies! “insert Cleveland joke here_____!”
